Dear valued volunteers, customers, donors and supporters,
I am delighted to share that, after several months of diligent efforts, Computerbank has managed to secure a new home in Broadmeadows. The site (part of the old Ericsson factory) comprises a small store and a warehouse space shared with ESE (Enable Social Enterprises), a prominent Social Enterprise providing employment programs and pathways for disadvantaged whilst leading the way with a Circular Economy approach in the IT asset disposition (ITAD) and secured data destruction services sector.
We are forever grateful to Julie McKay and the team at ESE for reaching out to us initially to see how they could help ensure Computerbank’s ongoing like-minded work.
What does this mean for the future of Computerbank?
As part of this move we will be making some changes to how we operate:
- We will no longer be selling desktops. Instead we will focus on continuing to sell quality laptops
- While our expertise is in providing Linux-based Open Software, we will provide Windows-based machines, if required
- We will have a showroom available for customers to browse our offerings and seek support, however, we will begin to offer sales online as well, including shipping
- We will also look to start offering Linux support remotely
Where is the new location?
The new store can be found at 60-64 Belfast Street, Broadmeadows, VIC 3047. There is car parking available, and the 540 bus (which can be taken from Coolaroo Station on the Craigieburn line, or Upfield on the Upfield line) stops just around the corner at Hume Central Secondary College on Blair St.
When does this take effect?
We expect to remain open at 1 Stawell Street until mid April and begin trading from our new location in May. Any changes to this timeline will be communicated in due course.
